sixty priests walk on ahead.
A wind disturbs the branches of the broad-leaved trees.
Good Lord preserve from harm Greek children everywhere.

Θρήνος μεγάλος έγινε μέσα στο Μεσολόγγι
το Μάρκο παν, παιδιά μ’, στην εκκλησιά.
Το Μάρκο παν στην εκκλησιά, το Μάρκο παν στον τάφο
’ξήντα παπάδες παν μπροστά.
Αέρας τα φυσάει τα πλατανόφυλλα
Θεός να τα φυλάει τα ελληνόπουλα.
