Lyrics

Who saw, hail Arcadian lass,
who saw the girl from Arcadia,
dear Arcadian lass, decked out in klephtic garb?

Twelve years she fought with the klephts.
Not one of them knew she was a girl
till one Easter, one feasting Sunday,
the klephts came to the dance and tossed the stone.
The lads threw it forty paces at most
the Arcadian lass went and hurled it forty five.
And with all the twisting and turning
her silver button came undone
and something hove into sight.

Translated by Michael Eleftheriou

Original Lyrics

Ποιος είδε, γεια σ’ Αρκαδιανή, ποιος είδε την Αρκαδιανή;
