‘Lord Tartar, master of my children,

who can read and write and chant in church.

Σούρνει ο Τάταρης,
σούρνει ο Τάταρης εννιά αδέρφια-να δεμένα
μ’ έναν ά-να-λυσο, μπιρμπιλομά-να-τα μου,
μωρέ, μ’ έναν ά-να-λυσο, σε κλαίν’ τα μά-να-τια μου.
Μ’ έναν άλυσο, και τα εννιά δεμένα.
Πάει και η μάνα τους, κοντά παρακαλώντας.
Αφέντη Τάταρη, αφέντη των μπαιδιών μου,
για χάρισε κι εμέ ένα από τα παιδιά μου,
το μικρότερο που ’ναι γραμματισμένο,
που ξέρει γράμματα, διαβάζει το ψαλτήρι.
