Slow song in a free rhythm from Crete. It is a so-called távla (table) song which belongs to the rizítika category. Rizítika songs come from the countryside at the foot of the mountains (Greek: rizá) in the Chania region (western Crete). Távla songs are also called kathistiká (sitting) songs. In Crete they are sung by two groups of men at the table while the meal is going on, without instrumental accompani ment. The text is usually of a narrative or heroic nature.
