Love song from the Pogoni region in northwest Greece, Epirus. The dance is a syrtos which is performed by both men and women who dance hand in hand on a semi-circle. It has a slow rhythm in 2/4 time.
In this song one can also hear the polyphony which is typical of Epirus. The flower in the text is the basilica plant (vassilikos in Greek), which belongs to the rich Greek trafition of scented potplants placed in all windows. Such a flower or scented plant is often alluded to when one speaks of one's beloved.
