Notes
This dance, which is in 2/4 time and has six steps, is a quicker variant of hassapikos (butcher's dance). The faster tempo comes from the north, hence the term serviko (Serbian). The dance originates from Constantinople and can be traced back to the Byzantine guild dances. In time it spread to the islands, Thrace and Macedonia, and of recent years can be found practically all over Greece. It is danced by both men and women holding each other's shoulders.
Recording information
Recorded in a studio in 1979.
